Charles Kamoto: New boss at Airtel Malawi

Youthful Malawian down-to-earth marketer Charles Kamoto has been appointed  Airtel Malawi managing director (MD) effective from March  1, tasked with driving the company’s strategic leadership in Malawi , building its brand and extending the company’s 3G footprint. Kamoto becomes only the second Malawian to be at the helm of Airtel Malawi after economist-cum-marketer Saulos Chilima who quit the job in early 2014 to serve the nation in governance realm and is currently the country’s Vice-President. Prior to his appointment was chief commercial officer and previously worked for Airtel’s rival, locally owned TNM where he last served as chief commercial officer between January 2011 and May 2014. “As the managing director for Malawi, Charles will continue to build on his good work to innovate winning customer solutions for Malawi, consolidate the gains made in defending our revenue market share and build external stakeholder relations. “I would like to congratulate Charles on his well-deserved appointment and wish him every success in his new role,” said Christian de Faria, Airtel Africa chief executive officer, in the statement. Kamoto holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the Polytechnic, a constituent college of the University of Malawi and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Eastern and Southern African Management Institute (Esami).
