Airtel Malawi splash K7.5m for mothers treat in hospitals

Leading mobile telecommunications operator Airtel Malawi on Friday took to town the mother’s day commemorations by treating mothers to a MK7.5 million exclusive hospital reach out in the country’s three major cities. In Mzuzu they donated at Mzuzu health centre. Among other things, Airtel Malawi staff led by Head of Enterprise Business at Airtel Malawi Rachel Mijiga in Blantyre gave out bath basins, soap and chitenje’s to each of the mothers in the health centres. In addition, Airtel also donated various medical items ranging from bp machines, sterilizing drums, oxygen concentrators, bed linen, suture and delivery sets and bins to echo its mother’s day celebrations in style. In her remarks, Mijiga said as brand, they emulate their care from the motherly spirit. “This is to say thank you mothers and to celebrate with you on this exclusive day of yours. The impact that mothers have on our lives cannot be ignored, we are all here today because of their tremendous dedication and love to us,” she said. She also said Airtel wanted to appreciate the role of all mothers and assured them that their company will always give back to the community. “Airtel takes pride in giving back to the communities in which it operates. At the same time we have developed healthy relationships with different stakeholders as well as Government to supplement your efforts in bettering the lives of the communities,” she said. Mijiga instead, pledged Airtel’s continued support to the mothers’ inorder to alleviate the challenges that they face. Limbe health centre Nursing in charge Naomi Bowa commended Airtel for the donation. Bowa said the donated items will help reduce the problems that most of the pregnant mothers face at the health centre. “This donation will therefore go a long way in reducing some of the problems which these mothers face,” Mijiga said. She however, urged other companies to emulate Airtel’s example saying the institution requires the support of various stakeholders to continue to operate smoothly. “We are a hospital with a lot of needs and demands that we seem not to be affording due to the limited financing that we get. “This event serves as an example to others to also come and donate to this institution so that we can improve the health of our people,” she said.
